A Texas mother is in court after police revealed that she intentionally dropped her 1-year-old child out the window, leaving her to die as she abandoned the hotel.

Channel Yonko, 30, has been denied bail after being charged with the capital murder of her 17-month-old daughter, Hannah Yonko.

The tragic incident occurred in Galveston when, according to an arrest warrant affidavit, Channel allegedly dropped her daughter from a hotel balcony.

Surveillance footage appears to show the toddler falling from the third floor to the ground below. The affidavit also reveals that the child had three puncture wounds.

After being found on the pavement, Hannah was rushed to UTMB Galveston’s trauma center where she was pronounced dead shortly after. Quick action by patrol officers led to the identification and apprehension of the suspect.

Channel was found wandering the streets about a half mile away from the hotel, initially telling officers her daughter was ill. She behaved erratically and was crying, leading officers to take her back to the station. However, once there, she refused to provide her name or cooperate with police.

The woman’s sister came to the police station, reporting that she had met up with her sister Yonko, who was pushing a stroller at The Victorian earlier. She presumed little Hannah was inside but didn’t actually verify.

Channel ominously told her, “Don’t return to the hotel.”

Officers learned from Beachfront Palms hotel employees that the group was in room 217. Investigators discovered a garbage bag containing a key card to room 217, a black-handled “skinning” knife, children’s items, and various snacks and diapers, officials stated in their report.

Additionally, surveillance footage revealed the tragic moment when Hannah fell, and an earlier scene capturing Yonko with her daughter, who was still alive, in the stroller.

Galveston police Chief Doug Balli said in statement, “This is a horrible crime. All children deserve to feel safe when around loved ones, especially with their own mother. The Galveston Police Department is committed to bringing justice for Hannah and ensuring the safety of all children in our community.”
